Fire Tower Hike & River Stomp

The Pulaski County Public Library is hosting two activities in June at the Tippecanoe River State Park: a Fire Tower Hike and a River Stomp.  Sign up at

Fire Tower Hike: Thursday, June 17th, 3:30 pm

Join us for a hike to the fire tower at Tippecanoe River State Park – and climb to the top if you’re brave!

Participants will meet at the Fire Tower Picnic Area at 3:30. Here Ellen, the Tippecanoe River State Park Naturalist, will share the history of the fire tower and talk the about the buildings that were built from 1935 to 1937. From there she’ll lead short hike to the tower. Participants will have the opportunity (but won’t be required to) walk the 110 stairs to the top.

All ages are welcome to participate in this hike.

River Stomp: Saturday, June 19th, 3:00 pm

Join Ellen and Shelley at the Tippecanoe River State Park to get in the river and catch some critters! Kids will get to catch anything that creeps, crawls, slithers, and climbs. Shelley and Ellen will also be catching a few things and doing a show and tell as they discuss what they caught. Ellen is the naturalist at TRSP, and Shelley works with Pulaski County Water and Soil.

Participants will want to wear clothes and shoes that they are okay with wearing in the river. Sunscreen and bug spray are encouraged! Everything is catch and release; nothing will be sent home.

Meet at the new Otter Bend Picnic Area/Boat Launch at 3:00 for this kids' activity. Ask at the front gate for directions.
