The Great American Read

Vote for your favorite books and help choose America's number one read!

The Great American Read is an eight-part series on PBS that explores and celebrates the power of reading, told through the prism of America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey).

The series investigates how and why writers create their fictional worlds, how we as readers are affected by these stories, and what these 100 different books have to say about our diverse nation and our shared human experience.

The list contains a broad range of fictional titles, authors, time periods, countries, genres and subject matter. It includes books from as far back as the 1600s and as recent as 2016.

We have all books on The Great American Read's list available for checkout at the library.  We also have The Book of Books, featuring descriptions of every book on the list.

People across the nation can still vote for their favorite books.  Vote for your top picks at www.pbs.org/the-great-american-read/vote/.  Voting ends October 17th!

We’ll watch the episode “Villains and Monsters” on Tuesday, October 16th at 10:30 a.m. at the library.  Then join us for the finale on October 30th at 10:30 a.m. to see which book was voted number one!
