Summer is here, and that means it’s time for Summer Reading at the Pulaski County Public Library! This year’s "Color Our World" theme brings a rainbow of activities every day, ensuring there's always something fun happening at the library.
Now through July 11th, kids and teens who participate in Summer Reading will track their reading to help them complete their goals and earn prizes. Our program was created to make reading feel like the best part of summer, not a chore!
Each week in our children’s area follows a colorful pattern: Mondays and Thursdays feature themed craft activities like paper line sculptures, foil painting, and straw weaving. Tuesdays spotlight our "Story Time of Colors," where little ones explore the week’s color through stories, songs, and play. Wednesdays bring family-friendly movies and a different special guest each week, while Fridays offer preschool learning opportunities and all-day drop-in crafts. Older kids will enjoy weekly video game sessions and a Teen Creative Writing course in July.
In addition to weekly programs, special events are happening at the library throughout the summer. Youth Improv Camp runs June 2-6 for ages 7-14, helping kids build confidence through creativity and teamwork. All-abilities Hip-Hop Dance Classes will get people moving, and the Dramatic Fanatics Puppet Show on July 21st will let children get hands-on with puppets. The library will also be hosting many fun activities at the Pulaski County 4-H Fair and a major book sale during the week of Power from the Past.
Kids can also read their way to the circus! Read enough books by June 17th, and your child can earn a free ticket to the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus taking place that evening in Winamac.
Registration for Summer Reading is free and easy – just stop by the children's desk anytime between now and July 11th.
Everyone who completes their reading goals gets to attend the End of Summer Reading Ice Cream Party at the town park, complete with certificates, rewards, and grand prize drawings. While the reading program ends with the party on July 14th, weekly activities and special events will continue through the end of July!
Adults aren't left out of the summer fun! Grownups who register at the main desk can read books and enter prize drawings throughout the summer.
As part of our “Color Our World” theme, this year we're offering an easel and plein air painting art kits for adult checkout. “En plein air” is French for “in the open air.” Plein air painting is about leaving the four walls of your house or studio and painting outdoors in the actual landscape.
Adults are also invited to join us for our new weekly "Coffee & Crochet Hooks" sessions and our Adult Coloring Circle for some relaxing creative time.
Ready to join the colorful adventure? Registration is open now! Stay updated through our web calendar, newsletter, Facebook page, or by stopping in regularly.
Help us make this summer at the Pulaski County Public Library the most colorful reading adventure yet!
