What did Thomas Jefferson and James Madison discover during their 1791 adventure through Upstate New York and New England? Join us Wednesday, February 18 at 1:00 p.m. for a fascinating exploration of this pivotal journey that strengthened one of history's most important friendships.
As political tensions simmered in the young nation, these two Founding Fathers set out on what Madison called a trip for "health, recreation and curiosity." In this program, you’ll trace their route, revealing how shared passions for botany, landscape, and history deepened a bond Jefferson later described as "a source of constant happiness."
This one-hour Road Scholar lecture and Q&A will be presented live over Zoom by Louis P. Masur, Distinguished Professor of American Studies and History at Rutgers University. This will be a great program for celebrating both Presidents Day and our nation’s 250th birthday.
