What is the Story Trail?
The Story Trail is an initiative of the Pulaski County Public Library Foundation that combines the joy of reading with the beauty of nature.
Opened in May of 2025, the Story Trail consists of a series of stations located around the walking trail at the Winamac Town Park. Each station displays a page of a children's book. Families can read the full story by following the trail, reading a page at each stop.
The book currently on display at the Story Trail is Scary Gary and the Super Sock, written by C. G. Baird and illustrated by Izzy B.
Scary Gary is a squirrel with superhero dreams who believes magical socks hold the key to shooting water from his paws. He's determined to claim this superpower for himself – even if it means taking on the infamous Glitter Gang! This delightfully quirky tale follows our furry hero's wild adventure to become a superhero and protect his beloved dumpster lair. Read along in English or Spanish with the bilingual text on this story's pages.
The Story Trail’s featured book is changed out regularly. Stop back here to see what’s new, or visit the Story Trail to discover new stories throughout the year.
How to Visit the Story Trail
The Story Trail can be found at the Winamac Town Park, located at 262 E Old State Rd 14. Enter the park by car through the main entrance, or head east from downtown Winamac along Main Street to walk, ride, or roll across the Memorial Swinging Bridge.
The story begins at the park's restroom shelter (10 City Park Drive). From there, go north along the trail, reading a page of the story at each station along the way. The Story Trail continues around the full walking trail loop.
The Story Trail is available anytime the park is open.
