The Pulaski County Public Library Foundation is pleased to announce the grand opening of its new Story Trail along the walking trail in the Winamac Town Park.
The public is invited to attend a special opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, May 17, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., marking the official launch of the Story Trail. The celebration will feature games, music, ice cream, and fun for all ages.
The Story Trail consists of a series of stations located around the walking trail at the Winamac Town Park. Each station displays a page of a children's book. Families can read the full story by following the trail, reading a page at each stop.
The first story to be featured on the trail is The Acorn & the Oak, written by Rhonda Accardo and illustrated by Jessica Waterstradt. The book tells the story of a young girl, her mother, and their love for an old oak tree.
The books will change throughout the year, and the Story Trail is available anytime the town park is open. Learn more about the Story Trail, including how to make the most of your visit and how you can support its ongoing operation.
Last fall, resident Beth Ruff-Crawford contacted PCPL Executive Director MacKenzie Ledley about a StoryWalk that she had seen in another town. She inquired about the possibility of creating a similar project locally, and a group consisting of the Winamac Parks Board, Town of Winamac Manager, Pulaski County Public Library Director, and the Pulaski County Public Library Foundation began working together to bring the project to fruition.
The Story Trail combines the joy of reading with the beauty of nature, embodying the Pulaski County Public Library Foundation's mission to inspire literacy and community engagement.
The Pulaski County Public Library Foundation will provide ongoing support and funding for the Story Trail as it continues to bring joy to families over the coming years.
Donations enable the Library Foundation to support the success of innovative community projects like the Story Trail, as well as Imagination Library, educational programs, and library enhancements. Learn more and give online at www.pcplf.org.
